Er zijn gerust andere internationale regels of vormen van sociale zekerheid mogelijk dan een mondiaal basisinkomen. Er is echter geen ander systeem dat zo direct en onvoorwaardelijk aan alle mensen in de wereld een basiszekerheid kan bieden. Een basisinkomen geeft mensen bestaanszekerheid. Punt. De vraag die wij ons als donorland moeten stellen is of we bereid zijn ons ontwikkelingsbeleid te herzien in functie van een basisinkomen? Nu steunen we losse projecten in de allerarmste regio’s ter wereld, een goede zaak, maar zouden we niet veel meer bereiken wanneer we dat budget zouden inzetten op een gegarandeerd basisinkomen?
